At the end of the 1970s, the fishing association had to throw in the towel. Running a herring smokehouse at Bormholm was no longer profitable.
A long tradition of preserving herring by smoking was left to the tourist industry. In 1960 I was visiting Bornholm with my friend Rodney Weidland.
Many smokehouses were running good business along the cost taking care of large herrings from the fishermans at the island. We made a photo reportage
using a Hasselbland 1000F. The family running the smokehouse were very friendly and we could stay inside the smokehouse during the very smoky process.

Tour leader Haikko is trying to scare off a hungry polar bear at 82nd degrees North
The trip to the polar bears at Svalbard was very much affected by the weather.
The ice had drifted up north to the 82nd north latitude.
The polar bear we met up there were very aggressive and hungry. They tried to grab our legs when we walked the boat deck.
We turned south back to Svalbard mainland because of expected hard wind and we were lucky to find mother with two cubs.
We will come back with more pictures from that meeting

Color full Fall in Scania
Fall can be very color full in this time of the year. We all need that when the sun stays low in Scania.
During a visit to a National Park called Nackarpsdalen, with its deep canyon, the mist came in between the cliffs.
When the sun came out the beech wood the water drops light up and a little wood mouse tried to hide in a tree.
In the this time of the year the Bohemian Waxwing gather in big nomadic groups looking for berries and fruits. Such a color full bird.

Back from the ice of Svalbard
We have visited the wilderness of Svalbard with the motor ship Stockholm again. The trip included the sight of 11 polar bears and
most the other mammals typical of this arctic region. It is always interesting to visit this part of the world and it is never the
same sights. I had never before seen a polar bear playing with objects. After two years of eating on a whale carcass the polar bears
have to dive down to find food. A young polar bear did not had the skill to do that and played instead with the baleen of the whale.

Wild life at Upper Ugglefors 2010
We spend our summers at my grand fathers house built 1917.
I am now the old man of the house and is only doing service as playing
with the grand children of my daughter. We play at 2000 square meters of
garden and forest. In a photographers point of view it happens always a lot.
This summer, with plenty of sun shine, was no exception.
The picture above is my favorite. Really a David and Goliath situation. Get a larger photo, please click the image.

Rainy visit to Riddarhyttan in spring
Our family had a short visit to our house at Riddarhyttan in the middle of Sweden. It was raining almost all the time, but it is a lot to observe
in the spring time. The birds are nesting and busy to feed, even if the rain falls. Close to the camping ground, down at the lake Lien, a beaver
was working hard to take down a big tree.

This year of the crane visit to Hornborga, Sweden.
The first landing of cranes at Hornborga lake in Sweden was more than one week late this year because of a hard winter in Scandinavia.
The number of cranes picked up very quickly and at easter it was more than 12 000 eating at the fields. We made a visit on the 3-4 of April and had two wonderful
mornings with sunrise over the forest tree tops. I was trying to get a crane standing in the sun, but failed. It was parity cold in the morning at six
and one could see the breath of the cranes.

Vernissage for "Vasaskolan 1959" Photo exhibition at Östgötland County Museum
The museum had sent out an invitation
for the vernissage, and Bob had sent out letters to most of his class mates. The response was overwhelming,
more than 50 visitors attended the inauguration held by the Curator Marietta Douglas.
Many of Bob's dear school friends turned up, even all the way from Australia. Some of the names come to my mind;
Rodney Weidland, Kennneth Åberg, Bengt Lennhammar, Runo Axelsson, Per Henell, Leif Söderberg, Roland Johansson, Christer Johansson, Håkan Thorell,
Börje Larsson, Ulf Johnsson, Göran Karlsson and may be I missed some.
Some teachers from Vasaskolan turned up too. The chemistry teacher K-G Ahlström and the art teacher Zachrisson and some more came along. It was great fun to meet all and have a
chat after 50 years.
Here is a
photo play of more pictures from the vernissage.

Big article in Corren
The article was introduced already at the second page of Corren as the top news of the Culture
edition, following the news paper on Saturdays.
On the top of the cover in the Culture edition was a picture of Bob leading to the article.
The article was written very well by Gustav Svärd. The clever idea was to let some students from senior highschool
comment on some of the pictures in the exhibition and the comments were used as text under the pictures.

The strong winter of 2010
Red apple in winter cover
The winter of 2010 has been unusually hard. Not since 1943 the average temperature
of January has been so low, according to the SMHI. The global warming is not showing
up this year one may notice, but on the other hand the temperature of one winter
is not telling anything about the trend for temperature change since the
industrial revolution started around 1880. The small birds are no doubt
having a hard time to find food when the snow is deep and the temperature
is below -20 C. It is a good idea to leave some of the apples on the tree
in a year like this, to give the birds something to eat. In our garden
in Riddarhyttan we always keep some. This year the red apples were popular,
and also giving the photographer a nice color in the photos.
Here is a
photo play of some of his images.
